As you can see from the above samples, if the text color or value is too close to the background color it will make it very difficult for people to read your pages. This is also true on light backgrounds, if your text color or value are too light, people will again have difficulty reading it.

As you can see, a dark background can be very attention getting, but requires careful planning as to the overall choice of colors. A dark background with contrasting graphics and text is an excellent way to achieve visual excitement on an opening page, but is a poor choice for pages and pages with large bodies of text.
