Below are a few of the treatments that may be used with photos and graphics on Web pages. The borders and shaded frames may be varied to almost any reasonable width. The drop shadows may be soft or hard, and any color of the rainbow.
The background color is the first thing which must be choosen for any set of pages. In many of these techniques, the color must be known and used in the production of these effects. If the client later changes the color of the pages, the effects work must be redone to match the new color.

These are examples of a picture which has been modified and has had a drop shadow added to it. The example on the left uses a soft, narrow drop shadow, while the example on the right uses a wide, somewhat harder drop shadow. Note that the one on the right seems to be floating further away from the paper surface than the one on the right.
This technique requires a small amount of extra graphic time per photo, and is dependent on matching the background color/pattern that is selected.
Navigation Buttons
Below in the top row are graphics, one of which has been modified and turned into the various styles of navigation-type buttons you see in the bottom row. These are not linked to a webpage in this example. They could be "clickable" active links to various pages related to kites.
